Cabo San Lucas’s location at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula makes it uniquely positioned for outstanding sport fishing. The cool Pacific current from California in the north mixes with the warm Pacific waters from the south and the nutrient rich waters of the Sea of Cortez to create a perfect mixing of nutrient rich currents that attract and trap bait fish, bringing with them large numbers of pelagic and sport fish species.

Cabo San Lucas is most well known for its marlin fishing. Huge schools of blue, black and striped marlin are found in Cabo’s waters throughout the year. From November through June the water temperatures are just right for the striped marlin to pass through on their migratory journey. During this time, the fishing for striped marlin is unbeatable. Multiple hookups are common, and records catches are recorded each year. When the waters begin to heat up in June, the fishing for blue and black marlin heat up as well. 300 lb. plus catches are not uncommon during this time of year. Summer fishing for blue marlin is what Cabo San Lucas is most famous for. There is nothing like the rod-bending thrill of a blue marlin hookup in Cabo San Lucas! Other billfish are also attracted to Cabo’s nutrient rich waters. Sailfish are caught throughout the year, while spring time brings swordfish to the area, a real treat for the adventurous angler. But billfish are not the only prized catching in Cabo San Lucas. Dorado and wahoo- hard fighting and great tasting sport fish-are common catches throughout the year, while tuna fishing is hot from June through December. Tuna species found in Cabo San Lucas include bigeye, yellow fin, albacore, and the highly prized blue fin.
